I'll bet a dollar and a donut that if CF enacted a no-booze policy, the pay would be better. I'm a little peeved that our work indirectly stocks their 'fridge full of beer.'

You get to drink on the job when everyone involved in your process doesn't mind. I mind. No more CF for me.

I've since thought, wouldn't it be great if Google decided to get into a service similar to mTurk since they seem to me to treat their workers so well. Makes more sense to me than it being an Amazon service.
Except Product Listings is a Google operation here on mturk and their pay leaves a lot to be desired, IMO.

I was looking over CF's website the other day and was shocked that they take a 33% cut of every HIT. Gotta pay for that booze somehow I guess.

*headdesk* That might explain the problems I've had with other requesters too.

I'm usually drinking a beer while turking, but I dont' think I've ever been *drunk* while doing HITS.

Ha, ridiculous. Friday afternoon happy hour is one thing, but keeping a fridge constantly stocked is asking for trouble. It's not like their Turker "employees" can really complain about their shoddy QC, though, so why should they care.

I also have a problem with this: "Making it available at work might also serve to "weed out" workers who cannot keep their drinking moderate. "An alcoholic may not last long at place where people are drinking."" That's a pretty awful thing to say. For one thing, a company that encourages drinking at will is losing out on the talent of alcoholics who are currently sober but can't be in that sort of environment. Again, serving alcohol in a controlled way is one thing, but I would be embarrassed to work at a company that basically says "Here, have all the booze you can handle! We sure hope you're not one of those alcoholics, though."

I'll admit that my first thought reading this was "Sounds like a fun place to work!" Not because of the booze in and of itself, but because having booze available--for free, no less--doesn't mix with the 'stick up the ass' mentality I find in most jobs I've had I'm just not a corporate person.

Ha! It certainly explains a lot. Most HITs I've done for them, when the QC pops, I can understand why it does, but this one time, I had three in a row that, not only did I disagree, but I had to report it, declare it unfair. The person at the other end of that QC was definitely drunk or on something.
I left that task in a hurry, it was pissing me off...

Yup, I just had the same problem as eddypoe got several in a row that made no sense that dragged my accuracy down from 100% to 88%. I stopped after their little warning popped up, thankfully they just approved them all last night.

More reason than ever not to do their HITs. I wonder how much business they lost over that article.
