    Thoughts about the Sci-Fi Channel?

    Anyone notice how, as time goes on, the Sci-Fi channel goes more and more downhill? They don't seem to want to be a scifi channel anymore. I mean, we all knew that when they changed their name to "Syfy" - but they just keep getting worse and worse. They can't seem to keep a show on, their made for tv movies all -suck- and even when they do get a hit (like Eureka, their highest rated show) - the Network's owners will just as often cancel it over the network's head. I mean, its gotten really bad, and that used to be all I ever watched.

    I agree. I used to love "Caprica," and they up and cancel it. Now I never find anything on there I enjoy watching.

    The so called SyFy channel is trying to be a Spike TV clone. The flood of reality shows on it are driving me away. BBCA has better SciFi shows and hasn't descended into appealing to lowest unlike the other channel networks. SyFy has cancelled Eureka and will shortly finish off the season. They are busy giving me a reason to cancel the cable and get the shows I like off iTunes or Netflix.

    Thank you, I am not the only one. I use to watch SyFy Channel when they played programming the went along with the name. Sleepless night on the weekend I would find myself watching newer and older types of anime shows. I miss those days. The classic channels are just become copycats of the newer ones. The list of channels going downhill grows daily.

    Yeah, I can't even remember the last time I watched it. Well, I guess I watched Face Off, but that's the only thing I have watched on there since Eureka went off.

    Another one that has gone downhill is Discovery. I used to watch it all the time. Now it is all red necks, hillbillies and explosions.

    My guilty pleasure is watching Haven. But, I do agree, "SyFy" is no longer the "Sci-Fi" I knew and loved. It's more like fiction-with-a-supernatural-twist now. {Sigh}

    I hate the so called SyFy movies for Saturday night. The plots seem to be written by 10 year olds. I have yet to see one that I can stand for more than a minute.

    It's called channel drift...I won't get into it too much, but it's basically what happens when channels deviate from their original programming, and have to start airing "louder" programming to attract viewers. It happened to the history channel, mtv, bravo, discovery and many more. Now it's happening to Syfy. I don't really know why it's happening, but I have a theory that the internet is causing a ratings drop, which is making the network executives panic. Unfortunately Neilsen ratings, which tells tv stations what to and not to produce, doesn't yet have a way to track viewers on the internet. Viewers = ad money. So we get more and more of this reality show crap, and TV stations deviating from their original programming. I'm sorry it has to be this way.

    I feel ya folks once if I had the sci-fi channel and animal planet I was good to go not much need for any other channels. Partly I grew out of it but I do miss the quality of the programming I used to enjoy. Now I have been slowly getting to various bbc sci-fi's where the budget's are always low but the actor's can actually make you feel for the character. That and almost anything I enjoy on "syfy" these days I can find online soon after it's broadcast.

    All I can stand to watch on Syfy now is Eureka and Warehouse 13. Bummed Star Gate seems to be done for good now.
