Ha! That's nothing.
Had to wait about 6 years for book #5 to come out.

I saw season 1, then I read the first book... that was awesome.
I had to read the second book, and then I saw the second season, and that was mildly disappointing - yes, the series is good, even great at times, but the divergence from the books and, well, it just couldn't live up to my imagination.
So now I'm stuck waiting for the third series to come out and finish before I can read book three... this book/tv series is going to be really hard on my patience, if I have to wait for the tv series to be shot and aired before I can indulge and read the book all the way to book seven - because that's what the author says it's going to take, to get to the end of the story he wants to tell...
visit http://grrm.livejournal.com/ to read his blog and see a few cool (too short) teaser trailers for an upcoming MMORPG's based on AGOT and do a search on iTunes for George R. R. Martin, he has a few podcasts that are worth the listen - he details how the idea for the books came about.

I watched the first two seasons, but I didn't love the the show like so many people seem to. I just found that I had a hard time finding characters likeable on this show. Mostly they are pretty reprehensible folks. I didn't even really "love to hate" anyone, either. I love fantasy usually. *shrug* Too much political scheming for my tastes, I guess.

Hahaha quizno--yea, now that you mention it...
I absolutely loveeeeeeee Game of Thrones. I got into it shortly after playing the game Skyrim, and the show just reminded me so much of the game. After season 2 ended there was a void in my heart so I started reading the books and they are really good. Lots of differences from the show so there is something fresh in there to read, not just the same stuff I've already watched. It will be interesting when season 3 starts airing next year because I will have already completed a couple more books (maybe all of them) so I will be watching the show and picking out what was different from the books, instead of vise versa.

I started reading the books because I didn't want to wait until 2013. Is Season 2 based on the second book? I thought Season 1 and 2 were based on the first book and the upcoming Season 3 is the first that is based on the second one.
