Thanks for this! It was very helpful, I had been wondering about scams.

Two things
I have had legitimate university surveys have an email field at the end of the survey, asking to followup/put you in a prize drawing. Should these be reported?
Asking for zip codes is always prohibited, right? I have seen this a lot as well. What can they do with a zip code?

I have no idea what they do with your demographics unless it's seeing how many people in an area think this way. I'm not too afraid of handing out my zip. To me, it's the same as handing out my city or state.

The problem with giving out any information is that over time, you potentially could give out a lot of information that could be pieced together.
Say you do a survey one day and give them email.
The next day your zip and city, next day your name, etc.. Over time a profile could be created because they have your requester id to tie it all together.
Many of these requesters who post surveys specifically are academics and only post infrequently on mturk, so they do not know the rules/amazonTOS as well as we do.
Email is a big one, if you give out your email you could expose it to hackers who could try to gain access to your email account, your amazon account, or your mturk account.
My email I give out is not the same as my Amazon email. My forum email is not the same as my Amazon email.
There are a few shady dipshits on mturk, so protect yourself against them and always remember, if it looks too good to be true, then come to the forum and ask lol.

Honestly, email is where I draw the line on surveys. I'll give out basic profile information - but nothing more than that in surveys just because I don't want to be hammered with spam. However, anything that anyone looking at me in person could tell? I consider that public info and have no issues sharing that info in a survey.

Is it safe to enter your MTurk worker ID when a requester asks for it on a survey?

It's really just an arbitrary number that you have been assigned by MTurk. All your info is on Amazons servers and Requestors dont have access to any of that. Anytime you do a hit requestors have access to your worker ID, its an easy way for them to check and make sure that you actually did the survey.

How often does Amazon go through the complaints and remove bad hits? It seems like there's been so many of them lately for credit and dating sites. I keep reporting them but it seems like days until they're removed. During that time, there's plenty of people they can scam.
Also, can someone point me to where there's a listing of requesters to stay away from? I'm new here.
Thanks!
