The purpose of one Mturk Hit involving a game against others

I remember being surprised by one of these. The HIT said upfront that it was simply a study, and that no one would be getting anything beyond the HIT payment. I was the "dictator" and was told to split $10. I went 50/50, and some time later was given a bonus of $5. with a note that the bonus was the amount I had chosen as my share. I remember wishing, just a little, that I'd been less fair, lol.

Then again, there may have been a maximum and if you had gone above it, you might have gotten nothing...

I did one of these where I actually did get a payout at the end, depending on whether I took a gift offered by a previous Turker and whether the person who completed the HIT after me decided to return my "gift" or gamble part or all of it. And they took all my money ;_; I think I did make a little on gambling the money of the person before me, but I felt guilty so I gave half back to them. Wish I could see the results.

I did one similar to this. I split it 50/50, because in real life I'd want someone to be generous with me

There was one of these the other day where one person got to choose how much to share (and the person sharing with me didn't), but then in a later task, the second person got to choose to help the first person earn bonus money or not (and I enjoyed skipping it).
