    Question Netbook recommendations anyone?

I do most of my turk work on my desktop during the day. I would like to be able to do it on a smaller computer in the evenings while watching TV, etc. I have a laptop, but it's almost too big (blocks my TV screen!), doesn't have a long battery life and gets too hot if I plug it in. I would love netbook recommendations from anyone with experience. I want something very light but with a decent sized keyboard.

There are so many out there that I have no idea where to start. Also, not one of the most expensive ones because I'll probably only be using it for stuff like turking.

    Thanks.

Be wary of the cheaper netbooks, I bought my mom one for her birthday and it is really slow on the internet that you can't get much done. I would get a smaller laptop if I were you so you don't have to worry about that problem, but that is just my two sense that friends who do computers for a living told me.

I have a 10 inch Asus Eee netbook that I have had for a couple years. It cost about $300 and has been perfect for couch turking (using it as I write this - lol). I have the big laptop in my home office when I am doing serious, focused work. The Asus does not have a long battery life (2 hours or so) - and I keep it plugged in most of the time. And the speakers are very basic. Otherwise it is great. Mine is an XP version and it is pretty speedy - full keyboard - integrated webcam and microphone. Netbooks by their nature are trimmed down to the basics - no cd/dvd drives and just a couple USB slots for attachments. I had not heard of Asus when I bought it but it turned out to be well regarded when I did the research. I consider it money well-spent. It has stood up well to a lot of travel and general abuse.

I have HP mini that I have had for several years--got it on special for a couple hundred dollars through Verizon. I recently bought a full-size keyboard that attaches through USB, but mostly I use built-in keyboard. I am hoping to save up enough money for a regular laptop. But right now this is my ONLY computer.

The microphone is built in as a kind of lid hinge. I recently had to pay over a hundred to replace it because it was bent and pushed on the regular little hinges, almost breaking off the lid. The guy at the computer repair store said they are notorious for that problem.

If you find one you like I would check and see if it is on tigerdirect.com before you go to a store. Tiger direct will be having a 4th of July sale soon and you should be able to pick a decent netbook at a really good price.

I highly recommend the Thinkpad x120e if you have the money ($400). It's not really a netbook, it's an "ultrabook", but it's a lot more powerful, has a better battery and runs way cooler than any netbook.

If you can wait a little longer, I think Lenovo is coming out with a new version soon, which will bring the cost of this one down. (or you can get the new one)

I know I'm very late to the party - the last note being 6/10, but for what it's worth I have an Acer Aspire One Happy 2 netbook and love it. It's extremely portable, lightweight, has a 3 hour battery life, nice sized keyboard, and runs on a scaled-down version of Windows 7. I purchased it online last December from B & H - $250 no tax/no shipping fees and have had no problems with it.

Well I might be a little late for moffett but maybe someone else will find this useful I have an HP Pavilion Notebook with 11.6" screen and AMD Dual-Core E-350 processor. The processor is key. Older notebooks are slow. This one is zippy Actually it's got as much going for it as a much larger laptop (lots of memory, good size harddrive). The only thing it doesn't have is an optical disk drive and I don't miss that at all. A bonus feature, the keyboard is big for a notebook. It does tend to get hot though. Here's a newer model: http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-dm1-4010us-11-6-Inch-Laptop-/dp/B005LLS1UO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340411949&sr=8-1&keywords=HP+DM1

I know this thread is old, but I just wanted add my 2 cents in case anyone else is looking for a netbook. Get a netbook with at least an 11.6" screen, so that the resolution is 1366 x 768, as 1024 x 600 has a lot of limitations. Also, some netbooks have cheap, mushy keyboards and glitchy touchpads, which make turking infuriating to say the least.

Have you bought a netbook yet OP?
