My ancient blender finally bit the dust. I am interested in getting a basic, not very expensive model that can do the basics -- smoothies, etc. Any recommendations for a blender that I can pick up in Target, for example? TIA

I find for a basic, but *great* (and I've tried all price ranges!) blender the "Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender" is perfect for blender necessities. I'm pretty sure Target, Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond carries it, and I know Amazon is selling it right now for about the same price ~$59. It's generally listed in various publications as one of the best, classic blenders for its price range.

If I recall correctly, I definitely got mine at Bed, Bath, and Beyond - plus with the 20% off coupon, it's even cheaper. :)

Here's the blender that Beeker recommended (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005QFKG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=turkernation-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00005QFKG) and it ships free using super saver shipping.

I've also had a friend recommend the Ninja Kitchen System (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004UR1FFS/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=turkernation-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004UR1FFS)

I've got the Ninja and while it's really not all that cheap, it's worth the extra money to me because I won't burn it up as fast as those 19.99 blenders from Walmart that I used to get. Also, there are tons of things you can do with it, like making cookie dough and pizza crust :)

When my blender bit it I started using my immersion blender. I don't see myself EVER going back! It has removable attachments and does everything. I put it directly into a pot on the stove, make smoothies, and it even comes with a mini food chopper piece. I love it!

Just a thought. I bout my daughter a "Magic Bullet" for Christmas this year and she uses it ALL THE TIME!!!! FOR EVERYTHING!!!!! I myself have never used one but she really loves it. She uses it for making everything from Chicken Quesadillas to Margaritas and such. It is a bit more expensive then a cheap blender but it does everything according to her. She :wubs: it!

I second the Magic Bullet. We've had ours for 3 or 4 years and it's still running as well as it did in the beginning. I love that it has single serving cups with lids for easy smoothies, but also a full sized blender cup. The chopping capabilities rock too.
