View Full Version : An Amazon Shopping Question...

I ordered two items from Amazon (through TN, of course) last night. The total was $20.00. When I checked out, I accidentally forget to put the expiration date of my debit card. As soon as I clicked checkout, I realized my mistake, but it said "Thanks for your order" anyway. I expected an error screen.

Checking the confirmation email, it said:

Shipping Method: Standard Shipping
Items: $7.25
Shipping & Handling: $4.99
------
Total Before Tax: $12.24
Estimated Tax To Be Collected:* $0.00
------
Total: $12.24
Gift Certificate/Card: -$12.24
------
Order Total: $0.00

It said the same thing for the other item, making my order total zero. I didn't have a coupon code/gift certificate. I checked both my Amazon Payments account and my bank, and the money was not subtracted. What happened? Surely, I didn't get this stuff for free. Right?

If so, that's a whole 'nother thread. "Amazon is Giving Away Free Shit!!! Thumbs UP!"

Check your gift card balance on Amazon. There had to have been a balance in there, maybe something you forgot about.

It's your giftcard money that pays for these orders even if it says grand total $0.00. If you check your gift card balance you will see the money taken for each of your orders separately.

Yeah, that was it. Thanks. I didn't even know I had a gift card balance -- $40.00. I must have earned that money here and didn't know. Free money! Does Amazon sell beer? I have been skipping some decent paying email surveys because I didn't know how to deal with a gift card. I'll think twice next time.

Thanks again.

Clark, try to make your purchases a minimum of $25 bucks for free shipping. Their supersaver free shipping is about 5-7 days.

Thanks, Taint. I didn't know that. The order total was actually $22.00. I should have have threw in one more thing. I don't order much online.

If you have a gift card balance, Amazon always applies that first. You can change it to another form of payment if you want to.

Not everything applies to the free supersaver free shipping, but a vast majority of items do. It always shows if it is eligible. I've never had a supersaver shipment take even 5 days. I think the longest was 4 days. It depends on where the merchandise is warehoused. Sometimes it actually is delivered within a day or two.

I use the filter to only show results that allow supersaver shipping on the left hand menu when searching on amazon.
I have used Amazon at least 100 times in the last year. Free shipping and no tax outweigh the additional cost or amazon markup on most items. I had one supersaver shipping take over a month, but I was not aware the company was in Thailand. Sometimes the shipping is just as fast as their standard shipping.

You deserve a parade complete with the oompah band for making that thread. Nearly every time I make an order, I have a crisis where I'm scrambling for something to get to make the $25 total.
