Well, I usually go for my usual addictions, like pens (http://www.amazon.com/mn/search/?_encoding=UTF8&tag=turkernation-20&index=blended&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=pens&sourceid=Mozilla-search), pretty paper (http://www.amazon.com/mn/search/?_encoding=UTF8&x=0&tag=turkernation-20&linkCode=ur2&y=0&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=%26%2334%3Bpretty%20paper%26%2334%3B&url=search-alias%3Daps#/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias=aps)https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=turkernation-20&l=ur2&o=1, gum (http://www.amazon.com/mn/search/?_encoding=UTF8&tag=turkernation-20&index=blended&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=gum&sourceid=Mozilla-search)https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=turkernation-20&l=ur2&o=1...small things like that.

Awesome thread idea! I actually have a private wish list called "fillers" that I use just for this.
Some items are:
-cat treats
-dog treats
-toilet paper! (funny I know but sometimes they have good sales on the Angel Soft with free shipping)

You can't have too many flash drives (http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-JetFlash-Retractable-Frustration-Package/dp/B0045ICJI4/ref=sr_1_14?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1326606957&sr=1-14)!

I always have a list of movie DVDs in my cart to "buy later." I add a few to the cart when I need to make up the difference to get free shipping. I often get the used DVDs...sometimes they are only a couple of bucks (but you have to check which ones qualify for free shipping). I keep them in the buy later section of the cart so that I can remember them and don't have to spend time searching for a movie to buy.

I actually found a link for this purpose. It will locate a filler item for you at the price you specify. Very helpful.

Wow I am with Xambo lol. I have never thought about doing this...
I do this all the time - never thought about pens, paper etc., I always add a Dover Thrift Editions book to my purchase. If you're into classic literature these are great inexpensive additions to your library - all are about $1.00 - $4.00. I'm a deal hound and absolutely never ever pay for shipping...:D

I finally gave up and got Prime. I think it's actually cheaper in the long run.

There's a section at slickdeals (daily deals across the net) for fillers too.

Wow, I never thought of buying inexpensive fillers! I usually just wait until I reach the free shipping threshold which can sometimes take months since I have to wait to be able to buy something else I want. Thanks for the links!

I usually just pick out a book I've been wanting or something to put away as a stocking stuffer for the holidays (books my daughter's into, toiletries, small toys).

The tooth fairy brings presents around here, so I always fill the extra space in the cart with little things, like pokey packs, matchbox cars and lipgloss so I never run out.

I'm a student and found out that I can get prime for free because of it. All you need is a .edu address!

Well, you could also try the amazon prime program. I've noticed that most of the stuff that has free super-saver shipping over 25 dollars also ships free with prime. :)
Great idea for a thread - I had this dilemma last week when I needed something like 36 cents to get free shipping :p I was trying to find spices thinking I could find some for less than a few dollars - yikes! I love the ideas here.

I also get the Dover Thrift editions of books. They're basically printed on newsprint, but they get the job done.
Now I have a Kindle, though, so I'll have to find a different filler item since old books are free to download.

I might get some of those .01 cent books. Honestly though, how can people be selling books for .01 cents and be making a profit?

The Metamorphosis and Other Stories (http://www.amazon.com/Metamorphosis-Other-Stories-Thrift-Editions/dp/0486290301/ref=tmm_pap_title_0) is a fine way to get yourself into the free shipping sweet spot.
The one-cent books have $4.99 shipping, and mailing a book costs like nothing. I've listed some for a few cents and gotten $4.99 reimbursement, then spent like a dollar shipping it (first class mail for thin paperbacks, media mail for heavy books).
